We are pleased to announce that our NMEA National Office is now at Maryland Sea Grant!

Maryland Sea Grant (MDSG) is part of a network of university-based, congressionally mandated Sea Grant College programs run in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) in the U.S. Department of Commerce. The program is funded jointly by Congress, through the NOAA National Sea Grant Office, and by the state of Maryland.

MDSG is under the direction of Dr. Fredrika Moser and located in College Park, Md., home to the University of Maryland at College Park, and is administered by the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Sciences. Established in 1977, MDSG works with university partners to promote economic and environmental health in marine, coastal, estuarine, and watershed regions, with a particular emphasis on Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay and coastal bays.

Long-time member and past NMEA President, J. Adam Frederick, assistant director for education at MDSG, will be responsible for oversight of the management of the NMEA Office operation and will supervise our new NMEA staff member, Jeannette Connors, in her capacity as NMEA office manager/membership coordinator. Ms. Connors has the skills and experience to perform the necessary membership management and administrative duties, with substantial experience in customer service and management; developing reports; organizing meeting logistics; and working with a variety of content management systems.

Ms. Connors and Mr. Frederick comprise an excellent team to support efficient day-to-day administration of our National Office and MDSG provides a location within a University setting, in close proximity to the District of Columbia, that can lend room to future organizational growth.

We're extremely grateful to Dr. Sharon Walker and the late Johnette Bosarge for decades of service as NMEA’s National Office in Ocean Springs, Miss. We'd also like to recognize Denise Reinke at the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Mississippi for graciously and gracefully maintaining our administrative needs over the past year, and Justine Glynn for stepping in with both feet to be our interim national office, and for leading the charge in building much of the new technical infrastructure we will use for many years to come.
