From the President - 2015-2017 Strategic Plan

Posted By Lisa D. Tossey, Monday, June 22, 2015

2015-17 Strategic Plan cover "At Last!" Thanks to the hard work of many individuals, both inside and outside our organization, and with Susan Haynes and Diana Payne at the helm, the NMEA Board and Strategic Plan Implementation Team are ready to present the National Marine Educators Association 2015-2017 Strategic Plan.

As you can imagine, since 2012 much thought and deliberation from various stakeholder perspectives has gone into creating this living document, one that we can make adjustments as needed. The Board of Directors and Strategic Planning Implementation Team listened and incorporated your input into the 2015 – 2017 NMEA Strategic Plan. By design, this strategic plan is intended to be a flexible, living document that will be revisited frequently and built upon over the next three years.

A heartfelt thank you to all who participated in the strategic planning process up until now and thank you in advance to those members who have stepped up as leads to move the strategic plan forward. If you have not participated in the process to date, it is never too late. There is quite a bit of work to be done to take our organization to the next level. Please take the initiative and reach out to the Key Focus Area Leads and offer your time and talent. A rising tide lifts all boats!

NMEA Strategic Planning Session

Calling all NMEA members! Please join members of the NMEA Strategic Planning team and provide your input to the future of our organization!

We've held one of two strategic planning meetings, interviewed members at the NMEA annual conference, and hosted a Wiki for member input. This is the last opportunity for member input before a small group of people gather to build the final strategic planning product that will carry the organization through the next several years.

The NMEA Strategic Planning - Membership Input Webinar will be held on September 15 at 7 p.m. EDT.

Registration is available online here >

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

We look forward to your participation!

2014 Strategic Planning

Have you let us know what you think yet? NMEA's Strategic Planning Wiki will be open until August 29!

We are deep into our strategic planning process that will be our focus for the next three years. We had a lively Visioning Retreat session immediately following our annual conference in July and have been busy talking with members, non-members, advisors, funders, corporate partners and more.

You are an important part of NMEA and we'd love to know your thoughts. Our strategic planning Wiki will remain open until August 29. Now is your chance to contribute your valuable perspective into the future of NMEA.

Please contact us if you have trouble adding your thoughts to the Wiki.

After the Wiki closes on August 29, we will be working towards completing the plan in October. Stay tuned!

Are you heading to Boston for NSTA?

Posted By Lisa D. Tossey, Tuesday, April 1, 2014

Hello NMEA members! If you are heading to Boston this week for NSTA, we'd love to talk with you. We are moving full steam ahead with strategic planning and it's important that we get your input. We know you'll be extremely busy, so we promise to take only five minutes of your time.

On Thursday, April 3, we'll be in Convention Center 052A/B beginning at 8:00 am for our hour-long Share-a-thon and then a full track of marine science education focused sessions from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm. When you come to our room, let any of our Board members know that you are there to give your input into strategic planning.

Come share your thoughts about the future of NMEA, the influence we can have on ocean literacy, STEM and other important initiatives, and how we can continue to work together for marine science education. NMEA is powered by its members, so we look forward to hearing your ideas!

Not coming to Boston? You can still participate! We're working with Julie Henry from The Pulse Team to facilitate this process so just e-mail her with your ideas.
